Everyone seems to have their mind made up on what type of person they want to spend the rest of their lives with. Knowing the type of person you want, gives you the opportunity to set standards. What you don’t want to do to is lower your standards for anyone. They can either get with the program or get left behind.
One standard that should be on everyone’s list is financial stability. Many go into relationships and do not have a clear understanding of their partner’s goals. You have to ask questions. If you don’t ask about their plans, how do you know that you are going to be apart of it? How do you know if that’s the path you want to partake in? Don’t continue in a relationship and get blindsided by something you failed to do.
When relationships are on the serious level, you have to know what kind of money your partner is making. Not in the sense of, ” I have to know what he is making, so he can splurge on me,” but know their finances so that you can build together. If they are not goal-oriented like you, it is time to hang it up.
Now, I am not saying that one sex has to make more than the other but you both have to bring something to table. If your significant other is in school to better themselves and you are the only working, there is nothing wrong with that to an extent. You have to be careful with those people who major in “Permanent Student-Life.” They have no clue what they want to do, keep changing their majors, and have been in the same position since they were 18.
Nevertheless, going back to school is a great goal towards success. If your mate is willing to hold the relationship down until you finish, then he/she deserves to be around once you start making those coins. Just know that the hard work is going to eventually pay off but you have to trust one another and communicate very often. You have to also support them in their dreams mentally, physically, and emotionally.
If you don’t communicate, how does the other person know how you truly feel. If you see that they are not fulfilling their part in the relationship, then let it go. Don’t hang onto something that isn’t going to allow you to blossom or someone that is holding you back from meeting your goals.
Being on the same financial level means that we are in this together. We will work hard to ensure that we fulfill each other’s needs and wants. You want to ensure that you set goals together, meet those goals, and consistently ask questions. Be sure to have an understanding of what needs to be done and how to get there, together.
