One of the things that stood out about Samsung‘s Galaxy Note 8 was not its display or S Pen, but its exorbitant $929 starting price. Lease options are available to help absorb that blow, but there is no denying that the phone’s high price tag will likely dissuade some folks from picking it up. However, would you be interested in a version of the Galaxy Note 8 with a lower price tag if it meant getting a bit less RAM?
That is an offering that looks to have passed through China’s TENAA agency, with the rumored Galaxy Note 8 variant featuring 4 GB of RAM instead of the 6 GB it will ship with when it launches around mid-September. That seems to be the only difference, with the former featuring the same IP68 water- and dust-resistance, Snapdragon 835, 6.3-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display, and 3,300 mAh battery as the latter.

As for pricing, the base 6 GB Galaxy Note 8 is rumored to sell for 6,288 yuan ($943) in China. Because the 4 GB model was likely made to have a slightly cheaper Galaxy Note 8 model, that version could sell for 5,664 yuan ($850).
Even with such a price difference, however, we are not sure if that will be enough to change folks’ minds. For one, though we could see the 4 GB Galaxy Note 8 spread its wings to more Asian countries, Samsung’s market share in the Chinese smartphone space is embarrassingly small. It also does not help when competitors like Xiaomi and Vivo have similar offerings for less money, a trend that Samsung has historically turned away from.
At the same time, a possible $100 price difference is nothing to ignore, and it could very well be the motivator for some people to at least consider the Galaxy Note 8. Such a gap would surely be welcome in the Indian smartphone market, where Samsung continues to reign supreme.
As such, I leave you with this: would you pick up a Galaxy Note 8 with less RAM and lower price point? Let us know in the comments and we will keep our ears on the ground to see whether rumors of the Galaxy Note 8 with 4 GB of RAM come true.
