But fresh report according to Daily Post, suggests that there are strong indications that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has come up with a new zoning arrangement following resolutions at the APC leadership meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, April 21; which mandated the party to come up with a more acceptable zoning formula.
The new zoning structure, a copy of which was seen by our Daily Post, takes cognisance of performance, integrity, legislative experience and ranking in considering candidates for National Assembly positions.
The new zoning formula cedes the Senate Presidency to the North-east while the Speaker goes to the South-west.
If the new zoning formular is the final zoning destination of the APC, then, Senator Bukola Saraki and Sen. George Akume, both from North Central may have been barred by this new arrangement.
In the case of the Speaker, House of Reps, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila still stands tall among others as the news zoning formula favours him and other Southwestern contenders of the position
According to the new zoning deal, the position of Senate Leader went to the North-west while the deputy Senate President went to North-central.
Stakeholders privy to the new zoning formula from the North west and North east expressed delight with the new arrangement while some members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) who know of the new arrangement but not mandated to speak said: “the new zoning formula is with our leaders. We only await directives to make it public.”
