The Peoples Democratic Party held its long anticipated non-elective convention in Abuja last week, and resolved to extend the tenure of its caretaker committee led by Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi by four months.
Expectedly, the convention was filled with backslapping, rhetoric, semantics and theatrics. The PDP, you will recall, held the reins of power in Nigeria since 1999, until its ouster by the All Progressives Congress in 2015.
Apparently, one would have expected that the party garnered some experience while in the political wilderness of ‘Siberia’, out of government. But, the main thrust of their comeback is that the ex-members who jumped boat at the most critical moment, are being wooed back! I hope they are not referring to those self-serving former PDP members, now in the APC.
We know their roles in the National Assembly, and elsewhere. So, red carpets are to be rolled out to receive them back into PDP. Just like that? Surely, it is old wine in old bag! It is like a game of see-saw!
