Gunmen have shot dead an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.
The deceased, identified as Mr. Rawlings Osagie, was attached to the state command of the NSCDC.
It was gathered that the assistant superintendent of corps was shot dead at his residence in Ugbor on arrival from work on Monday evening.
It was also learnt that the attackers waited for Rawlings at his residence and shot him as he opened the gate to his house in Benin.
His younger brother, Mr. Aghatise Osagie, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, stated that Rawlings was shot in the stomach.
His brother said he died at a hospital where he was rushed to after the shooting.
The police command said it had yet to receive a formal report on the matter.
But a source at the state command of the NSCDC, who did not want to be mentioned, confirmed the incident.
“Yes, he was shot. But there is no official statement on that for now,” the source said.
