Olaide Oyelude, Katsina
A herdsman, Kabir Sale,25, was on Tuesday remanded in Katsina Prison for being in possession of a locally-made pistol and six rounds of live cartridges without lawful authority.
The police said Sale was arrested on July 31 during a ‘stop and search’ at Sabuwar Kasa in the Kafur Local Government Area of the state.
They said upon further search at the herdsman’s house at Mahangi Village, an empty shell of live cartridges was also recovered.
The police told a Katsina State Magistrates’ Court presided over by Falile Dikko that Sale acted contrary to Section 3(1) of Robbery and Firearms Act, LFN, 2004.
The prosecuting counsel for the police, Sani Ado, however, said investigation into the case was still in progress.
While adjourning the case till October 4, 2017 for mention, the magistrate ordered that Sale should be remanded in the prison custody.
The police stated in the First Information Report they filed on the incident that the defendant told investigators during interrogation that he bought the pistol and cartridges from one Gwariman at Tunga Rijana Forest, Kaduna-Abuja Road “purposely to protect his cattle from thieves.”
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man, Suleiman Sabiu of Daddawa Village in the Jibia Local Government Area of the state, was also remanded in prison custody till October 3 for alleged rape.
Sabiu was said to have raped his neighbour’s 11-year-old daughter, an offence the police said was contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code.
The victim’s father, Murtala Ahmadu, was said to have reported the incident to the police on July 29 shortly after it occurred.
