The Field of Skills and Dreams, in partnership with Nagode Foundation, has selected 20 young entrepreneurs to be empowered with professional skills, funds and equipment to set up their businesses.
At the induction ceremony of the lucky entrepreneurs in Ikeja, Lagos on Monday, the Founder, FSD, Mrs. Omowale Ogunrinde, said the 20 candidates would be trained in fashion, hairdressing, electrical installations and cake baking, respectively for a period of six weeks.
Ogunrinde said the institute was open to students above 19 years for training in vocational, technical and entrepreneurial skills.
According to her, since the establishment of the institute in May 2013, it has partnered sponsors and foundations to equip young people with the needed skills and equipment to either start a business of their own or get a paid employment.
She said the institute had ensured that the students did not just acquire the skills but also proceeded to teach others, make a living for themselves and contribute to economic growth.
Speaking further, Ogunrinde said the success stories recorded had been attracting new partners and motivating existing partners, thus expanding the vision and spreading the need for entrepreneurship to other parts of the country.
Ogunrinde described entrepreneurship as the solution to the current economic challenges facing the country.
She said, “Entrepreneurship will take Nigeria out of recession given the full support of the government because Nigeria is getting to a point where youths are willing to stand on their own and even become employers of labour, but they just need that little push”.
According to the FSD founder, entrepreneurship will reduce the rate of hooliganism and prostitution in the country, noting that it will take the youths off the street and make them better people.
