Efe Ajagba and Efetobor Apochi began their professional boxing careers in the United States with wins in California on Sunday night.
The two boxers on July 26 joined boxing promoting outfit Ringstar Sports and had their debuts as undercards in the Premier Boxing Champions fight between Victor Ortiz and Saul Corral.
Apochi defeated Daniel Mejia in the third round of their cruiserweight fight while Ajagba knocked out Tyrell Herndon in their heavyweight clash.
Ajagba was the only boxer to represent Nigeria at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Apochi, who won bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, told our correspondent online that he was delighted to have won his first pro fight.
He said, “It was an exciting match. I had been looking forward to becoming a professional boxer and I am happy it started with a win.
“I am looking forward to my next fight with much anticipation and I believe that with God on my side, the name Apochi and Nigeria will be all over the world. It is a good thing that my brother also won his fight.”
According to Boxing Scene, the fighters are managed by Hall of Famer, Shelly Finkel, and will continue their training in Houston with trainer Ronnie Shields.
Both boxers, who hail from Delta State, have represented Nigeria in the amateur category since 2011.
