Nigeria Football Federation executive committee member Ahmed Fresh has donated a giant trophy to be competed for by football teams in Minna Emirate, Niger State.
Fresh presented the trophy on Thursday to the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Bahago, at his palace, saying the football competition, which will be organised by the state Football Association, is to honour the Emir for his contribution to youth development in the country.
The football administrator said, “The state FA is trying to resurrect the Emir of Minna Cup, which has become moribund for a very long time. The competition will be used to discover future stars in Minna.”
Fresh, who is also the state FA chairman, pointed out that football had helped in developing youths in the country and promised to sustain all football competitions in the state.
He said, “There are a lot of football competitions going on in Niger State, and it is our duty as football administrators to encourage them, especially now that we have seen the enthusiasm among the youths to play football.”
Bahago commended the state FA members for their contribution to the growth and development of football in the state.
