NASU chairman docked for assaulting FUTA bursar

PETER DADA

The Chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities, Federal University of Technology, Akure chapter, Bayo Aladerotohun, was on Friday arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court for allegedly beating up the Deputy Bursar of FUTA, Mrs. Foluso Olutayo-David.

The union leader was alleged to have led some workers of the university to assault Olutayo-David some months ago, following the latter’s refusal to participate in an industrial action of NASU.

During hearing on the matter on Friday, the representative of the Department of Public Prosecution, Olusegun Akeredolu, told the court that the DPP had interest in the case and prayed the court to allow the department take over the case from the police.

Akeredolu also asked the court for adjournment of the suit to enable the DPP study the case file properly.

But counsel to the defendant, Mr. A. Oyolola, opposed the prayers of Akeredolu, arguing that the DPP had no right to take over the case from the police.

After the arguments from both counsels, the Magistrate, Mrs. F.M Ajayi, ruled that the case could be transferred to the DPP from the police and adjourned the case to September 22.

Women Arise President, Dr. Joe Oke-Odumakin, said her group would ensure Olutayo-David gets justice.
