Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has disclosed how the EFCC probed him, while he was in power.
Obasanjo said the EFCC unearthed a foreign account long used by his late wife, Stella Obasanjo before they got married.
He stated that that was the nearest to what the former EFCC chairman, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu could find against him just after he had been appointed by him.
The former president also disclosed how he gave former Police boss Tafa Balogun a 30 minute ultimatum to resign or be dismissed.
Obasanjo made the comments in Lagos on Friday, April 28 as his associates converged to celebrate him on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
The associates who converged as “Learners of the Olusegun Obasanjo School of Nigerian Politics” included former office holders in the Obasanjo administration and some of the country’s leading names in the economy and Nollywood.
According to Vanguard, as the get together commenced at 8.00 p.m. a jovial Obasanjo charged his political disciples to make it a hearty evening and make it “a reunion, of reminiscences that will make us laugh, laugh and laugh.”
Among those present were Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former governor of Ogun state, Chief Olangusoye Oyinola, former governor of Osun state,and former EFCC boss, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
Others were former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mallam Ahmed Yayale, Economic gurus, Tonye Cole and Mr. Aigboje Aik-Imoukhuede, Senator Kola Bajumo and former presidential aide, Dr Doyin Okupe.
Ribadu who spoke at the event, praised Obasanjo’s steadfastness as president clarifying that Obasanjo was not privy to the arrest of Globalcom chairman, Chief Mike Adenuga.
On his part, Dr Okupe praised the former president, but affirmed that he was a man who was strict and could punish severely if anyone fell out of line. He added that Obasanjo could often be misunderstood but that he always had the best intentions.
Following the words of commendation Obasanjo flanked by his wife, Bola and associates cut a birthday cake.
Obasanjo said he warned Jonathan not to appoint Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke as minister of petroleum but he refused and went ahead to give her the portfolio.
He also said there was also an initial agreement that Jonathan would not run in the 2015 elections but he refused because he felt he could win the election.
