OAU Suspends Two SUG Excos For Fighting Over N3.8m

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has suspended two students of the institution over a bloody clash because of N3.8m largesse.

According to PUNCH, those suspended include the union’s Vice President, Jacob Tosin, and Director of Socials, Emmanual Adedayo.

They engaged in the clash during a meeting held on Tuesday evening, September 5, on how the N3.8m recently disbursed to the union by the university management would be spent.

The DOS sustained an injury in the arm during the clash while the VP is currently hospitalised.

Their notice of suspension was contained in a special release signed by the registrar of the university, Mr. Dotun Awoyemi.

A copy of the release obtained by our correspondent showed that the students were suspended on Friday.

According to the release, the students would be on suspension until full investigation was conducted to determine their level of culpability.

It read in part, “Following a report of physical manhandling involving two members of the Students’ Union Central Executive Council on September 5, the university Vice Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, has suspended the duo indefinitely from the university as student.

“The VC is satisfied that the code of conduct of the university has been breached. He has therefore decided to suspend the students that were allegedly involved in the incidence to determine their levels of culpability.

“Consequently, the two students are suspended pending full investigation of the alleged breach of conduct.”

Also confirming the suspension, the Public Relations Officer of the OAU, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, described the action of the students as “unpardonable”.

“No matter the level of provocation, students must take caution and not put laws into their own hands. This is a university for learning and culture,” he added.
