A Muslim popstar has been bombarded with vile abuse after she was wrongly accused of watching p*rn. Eagle-eyed social media reacted with fury when Mozhdah Jamalzadah shared a video on Instagram which showed bikini-clad women in a swimming pool playing on a monitor in the background.
The Canadian singer was branded a “slut” and told to “burn in hell” as she was accused of watching an X-rated film but later clarified the footage was a trailer for a horror film.
She faced the angry accusations as she shared a video telling fans how she was haunted by a ‘ghost’ while working on her new album in Vancouver, which hit the headlines last week.
Mozhdah, whose family fled Afghanistan when she was five, said she has been subjected to “D!sgust!ng and disturbing” abuse over the mix-up by irate social media users.
The 35-year-old, who sang for the Obamas at the White House in 2010, revealed how she became embroiled in a vicious social media storm in an emotional statement released yesterday.
She said: “I am deeply saddened at what has happened in the last few days. “This has been blown totally out of proportion by people on social media. I did not post anything online showing a p*rnographic video. “The video appeared after my producer was reviewing YouTube clips of ghost appearances similar to the one that some of my fans saw online.
“A promo came up for a new film called Hex showing a possessed women on holiday with her boyfriend in Cambodia. “It had nothing to do with P0rnography, but was just an intense scary movie trailer. “Somehow hundreds of social media users have completely misconstrued this video, and have not made some D!sgust!ng and disturbing comments about me.”
She added: “It has left some of my family members very concerned for my well being. I will have to contact the police if things escalate. “In some parts of the Islamic world, the sight of a couple kissing is deemed provocative imagery. “So while we in the West are treated to this scenes on a daily basis, for them this can be considered almost x rated.
“My deliberate aim is not to upset sections of Islamic society; in fact I am known for having a progressive understanding of my culture, which is well regarded by the younger generations.”
