The Delta State Government on Thursday said athletes from the state would participate in 25 games in the third edition of the National Youth Games starting on September 7 in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The Chairman of the State Sports Commission, Tonobok Okowa, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Asaba, the state capital, ahead of the athletes’ departure.
Okowa said the state government had put in place all necessary arrangements that would enable Team Delta emerge victorious in the event.
The chairman said the state had constituted an 18-man committee to achieve success at the competition. The committee included the Chairman of the Commission, the Director General and the Director of Sports Development as chairman, vice chairman and secretary respectively.
According to him, “Delta State has gone very far in the preparations towards the defence of the trophy won in the second edition of the National Youth Games”.
Okowa further clarified that the state had earlier participated in the zonal elimination tournament clinching slots in volleyball (female), hockey (male and female) while the basketball team came second in both male and female categories.
