The University of Uyo (UNIUYO), Akwa Ibom State during the week formally received the over 600 snakes, spiders and millipedes from the Federal Government.
Recall the personnel of the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, Cross River and Akwa Ibom Commands, had intercepted three consignments containing 140 species of snakes and 600 animals at the NIWA jetty, Calabar on July 24.
The consignment is also made up of geckos, millipedes, hairy frogs and spiders, imported into the country, all valued at N6.9 million.

They were handed over to the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment, University of Uyo.
According to the Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Usman Jibril, the university has some of the very few snakes’ experts in the country.
