Omotola stars in new movie

Alter Ego is Omotola Jalade’s first movie in three years and it didn’t disappoint one bit. It follows the story of Ada Igwe, a lawyer who specializes in defending less privileged sexually abused victims. She uses unorthodox methods to see that sex offenders and molesters are punished whether by the court or by her in situations where she couldn’t get judgment from the court.

Ada’s devotion to rape cases is personal as she was a sexually abused child. She was abused by her teacher back in primary school as a result of which she now has uncontrollable sexual urges.
She sleeps with any man she can find; her employees, including her gardener and driver, her brother -in-law, Daniel (Kunle Remi). She later meets Timothy (Wole Ojo), a billionaire philanthropist with whom she started a romantic relationship that further explores sexual abuse and its aftermath.

This Moses Inwang directed movie is distinct as it took a bold step by talking about a topic so real yet considered a ‘taboo’ in Africa.
The actors were believable and they did a great job at passing the message to the audience and at the same time creating awareness about the realities of sexual abuse and the resulting consequence (particularly the uncontrollable sex drive) on victims.

Omotola Jalade Ekeinde’s acting was not disappointing. She gave a stellar performance and it’s no wonder she is a Nollywood royalty. She was in tune with her character so much that all you see is a woman who is suffering and struggling to fight her demons. In Omotola, as Ada, we are introduced to the strength, vulnerability and struggles of someone fighting an addiction.

Wale Ojo was comfortable in his billionaire character; he had the poise and the charisma required to pull off the role of a billionaire philanthropist.

Jide Kosoko who played an abuser was brilliant as always as the seasoned actor’s performance was top-notch. Madam Kofo’s performance although brief was very entertaining.
The much talked about sex scenes were professionally done and in a way that is not offensive.

The movie is filled with proper suspense and it carries a powerful message that will make you cry. It is a must watch for all.
