Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy, Enyinnaya Abaribe, have charged the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency to arrest quack engineers and sellers of fake electrical materials in the country.
Speaking in Owerri, the state capital, during the inauguration of the Inspectorate Field Office, Okorocha bemoaned the menace of quack engineers in the country.
Represented by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Acho Ihim, the governor maintained that until NEMSA began to enforce order and embrace due process in the power sector, the country would continue to record huge losses.
He added that arresting and prosecuting sellers of fake electrical material would check the problem.
Also, Abaribe noted that NEMSA had the backing of the National Assembly to deal with those sabotaging the power industry, adding that “we at the national Assembly will give all the support you need to sanitise the industry.”
The lawmaker representing Abia-South said, “The law was passed in 2015 and in one of our oversight functions, we asked NEMSA to do its work. They are very important in the power sector.”
The Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, Peter Ewesor, said part of the duties of NEMSA was to ensure safety of lives and property within the grid and off grid network in the industry.
