Graduating students of the Department of English, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, have been tutored on how to maximise opportunities in their fields of study.
The students were exposed to various career opportunities at a seminar organised for them by the department recently at the university.
Among the speakers that enlightened the students were Mr. Ropo Ewenla, Mr. Tope Ajayi and Dr. Oluwole Coker. The speakers spoke on the theme, ‘Entrepreneurial English for Specific Purposes.’
Ewenla, who is the Deputy Director of University of Ibadan Media Centre, asked the students to prioritise their needs and avoid irrelevancies.
He said, “Surviving in the outside world has a lot to do with creativity. With the creativity that you will get from this course, you can successfully soar in the world. Concentrate on things that work for you not what others want. Discard whatever you don’t need.”
On his part, Ajayi challenged the graduating students to build a career outside the course they studied. This, he said, would make them relevant in any position they found themselves.
