The Yewa Traditional Council in Ogun State has appealed to the law enforcement agents and the state government to expedite action on uncovering the killers of Olowo of Owo-Yewa, Oba Oyeniran Fasinu.
Oba Fasinu was assassinated on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, while he was travelling back to his palace after he had attended the meeting of the Yewa Traditional Council held at Ilaro.
The late monarch was reported to have been axed to death when the assailants stopped his Toyota Camry car and later burnt with his car.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday at the secretariat of the Yewa Traditional Council in Ilaro, the Olu of Ilaro and the paramount of Yewa land, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, expressed grief of the Council on the gruesome assassination of one of them, by yet to be identified assailants.
He said the council was aware that three suspects had been arrested over the incident and therefore called on the police and the state government to ensure that those behind the heinous crime were brought to justice.
Oba Olugbenle who is also the Chairman, Ogun Council of Obas and President, Yewa Traditional Council, described the killing of the monarch as an abhorrence to the custom and tradition of Yorubaland and humanity.
Oba Olugbenle, who was represented by the Olu of Imasayi, Oba Gbadebo Oni, warned that the assassination of Oba Fasinu must not be allowed to go the same way of other high profile murder cases that were never unravelled.
Oba Olugbenle described the killing as a silent war against the institution of the traditional rulers in the country.
He said, “We are aware of the arrest of three suspects in connection with the case, already in police custody.
“The action is an abhorrence to the custom and tradition of Yorubaland and humanity in general. Such evil should not be allowed to go the way of similar cases across the country.
“This is a silent war against the institution of the traditional rulers in the country which must not be condoned by the law enforcement agencies and the government.
“We hereby call on the Nigeria Police and the Ogun State Government to please ensure that those behind this inhuman and degrading act are brought to book.”
