A new Resident Electoral Commissioner has been appointed to the Independent National Electoral Commission in Lagos State. He is Mr. Sam Olumekun.
Olumekun assumed duty on Wednesday at the state headquarters of the commission in Yaba, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
His appointment followed the retirement from service by Mr. Akin Orebiyi, the immediate past resident electoral commissioner.
The commission has successively been led by two Administrative Secretaries — Mr. Clement Oha and Dr. Mudashiru Mustapha.
Mr. Femi Akinbiyi, the Head of Public Affairs Department at the commission, confirmed to NAN that the new commissioner had reported for duty.
He said Olumekun while addressing staff members, sought their cooperation and that of stakeholders for the success of the electoral body’s operations.
NAN also reports that Olumekun is the immediate past INEC commissioner in Edo.
