The Federal Road Safety Corps says it has set up a special enforcement team to address the gridlock on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

It stated that the team, Operation Restore Sanity, would ensure free flow of traffic, adding that erring motorists would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

The Staff Officer Public Education, FRSC, Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe, who said this in a statement on Tuesday, noted that the move was informed by a rise in the frequency of gridlock in the Mowe and Ibafo ends of the expressway.

He said, “Over the years, the FRSC has invested considerable logistics and personnel resources to ensure smooth movement of persons and goods along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The recent rise in the frequency of gridlock along the expressway, especially around Mowe and Ibafo, necessitated the visit of the Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, on August 2, 2017 when he inspected the corridor.

“Consequently, the Zonal Commanding Officer, Zone RS2HQ Lagos, Assistant Corps Marshal Shehu Zaki, inaugurated the Operation Restore Sanity along the expressway on August 21, 2017.

“The operation, which is aimed at ensuring free movement of vehicles along the expressway, will ensure the arrest and prosecution of persons driving against traffic and other traffic offences.”

Okpe said the FRSC Sector Commander, Ogun State, Corps Commander Clement Oladele, met with unit commanders of the corps in Mowe, Sagamu and officials of Julius Berger Plc, on the need to fix some bad portions responsible for the gridlock.

“Motorists are enjoined to use the road in an orderly manner and cooperate with the FRSC officials working to ensure the free flow of traffic,” he added.
