The 2017 National Freestyle Championships finalists were on Monday handed their prizes at a ceremony in Lagos.
The winner of the grand prize, McCarthy Obanor, was presented with a cheque of N1m, a car and a trophy while the women’s category winner, Rasheedat Ajibade, was given a cheque of N1m.
Obanor will represent the country at World Freestyle Super Ball in Prague, Czech Republic, in August.
The third runners-up in the men and women’s categories Augustina Unamba and Ifeanyi Nwabueke, were presented with N250,000 each while the second runners-up in both categories Ndubuisi Esther and Austin Abariode received N500,000 each. The runners-up in each category Chidinma Okeke and Bababunmi Mayowa got N750,000 each.
The eight finalists also signed contracts with the organisers of the competition, Feet ‘n’ Tricks Nigeria Limited.
A Federal Inland Revenue Service chief, Kunle Oseni, promised that the body would continue to support the competition.
He said, “The FIRS as an arm of the Federal Government is committed to not only bringing in revenue for the country but also to sensitise the populace to their civic duties. We also support any initiative that is centred around the Nigerian youths. That is why we are supporting this initiative and will continue to do so for as long as possible.”
Chairman of Feet ‘n’ Tricks, Valentine Ozigbo, said the competition was aimed empowering the Nigerian youths and create awareness about the creative aspect of football.
