Reckitt Benckiser, makers of Dettol, has urged nursing mothers to embrace good hygiene practice during breastfeeding.
A statement quoted the company as saying this recently at a workshop for nursing mothers in Lagos titled, “Sustaining development together,” organised in partnership with the Save the Children International, Nigeria.
At the event, organised to mark the World Breastfeeding Week between August 1 and 7, the Marketing Director, RB West Africa, Aliza Leferink, said proper hygiene was very important in eradicating diseases, adding that this was why the company was motivated to educate nursing mothers.
The Advocacy Advisor, Save The Children International, Nigeria, Mrs. Folake Kuti, said exclusive breastfeeding should be encouraged in all organisations.
“All organisations are encouraged to support breastfeeding. Men are [also] implored to give their wives support for the campaign for exclusive breastfeeding to succeed,” she said.
Also speaking at the event, the Chief of Party, Save the Children International, Nigeria, Mr. David Atamewalen, said, “It is good to breastfeed babies in the first six months after delivery. I appeal to all men to support their wives to breastfeed their children in order to eradicate diarrhoea, cholera, and other illnesses among children.”
