A pupil of the Ijaw National Academy, Kaiama, Bayelsa State, Martin Franklin, on Wednesday, went home with the sum of N1m for emerging the overall winner of an essay competition organised for secondary school pupils in the state.
The competition was organised by the Robert Sunday Iworiso Foundation.
Jubilation rent the air as the State Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Authors, Mrs. Bina Ilagha, announced the 16-year-old SSS-3 pupil from Odi in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state as winner of the competition.
The ANA Chairman explained that diction, grammar, cohesion, coherence and creativity were the criteria used by the judges to select the winner from a pool of 100 contestants.
Also awarded with cash prizes were the first and second runners-up, Miss Tamaraifie Ayamieye of Biedomo Group of Schools and Miss Blessing Sweet-Owei of Tari-Pet Montessori School. The duo was rewarded with N250,000 and N 150,000 respectively.
