Diezani Alison-Madueke’s seized assets

As a concerned citizen of this great country, I cannot help but exclaim at the number of properties seized from Nigeria’s former minister of petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

I cannot even begin to imagine how much money she must have made away with. For someone to have properties that cost several billions of naira, then she must be stupendously wealthy.

What does she need all those houses for? She cannot live in more than one house at a time, so what is she doing with all those buildings in a nation where millions of Nigerians are homeless and can barely feed.

How can one person be so insensitive to the plight of others? Her case is a classic example of how our supposed leaders do more harm than good to the citizenry.

Just imagine how many of her kind we have in the corridors of power. This brings to fore the fact that corruption is still a big problem in this country and the Federal Government has yet to tackle it effectively. No high-profile person has been prosecuted and sent to jail for corruption.

If the government does not do so, we will continue to have corrupt leaders who will loot the treasury.

Many people have been discovered to have enriched themselves at Nigeria’s expense and till date, they have not been prosecuted. What happens is that at the initial stage, there is so much buzz about the ill-gotten funds. After a while, the noise abates and the whole matter is swept under the carpet.

Isn’t it sad that a petty thief who steals a few naira notes in the market is beaten to a pulp and sometimes killed whereas the real thieves are living  luxurious lives? The Federal Government has to wake up to its responsibilities by prosecuting Alison-Madueke. This will serve as a deterrent to others.
