The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria and the University of Lagos have expressed their willingness to work together with other institutions to provide programmes on improved insurance and risk management.
A statement from the CIIN said this partnership would also encourage exchange programmes among the participating institutions as well as certification of its members.
The President, CIIN, Mrs. Funmi Babington-Ashaye, made the partnership request to the university during her team’s visit to the Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, Prof. Rahmon Bello.
According to the statement, the collaborating parties are the University of Lagos, the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, College of Insurance and Financial Management Services and other foreign institutions.
Babington-Ashaye said this partnership would deliver great value to the insurance industry and all the parties involved, as well as impact positively on the output of the different institutions.
“The partnership will enable the provision of professional guidance to thousands of under-prepared students every year, to ensure their success and relevance to industries and employment sector,” she said.
While receiving the CIIN delegation, Bello congratulated Babington-Ashaye on her recent investiture as the new president of the institute.
He stated that UNILAG was not unaware of her unwavering commitment to the development of the nation’s educational system through scholarships for students of the university.
“We are poised to support and collaborate with educational and professional bodies as long as they seek to add value to what we do as an institution of learning,” Bello said.
According to him, the proposal will create additional value for participating institutions and the economy as a whole.
He mandated the office of the deputy vice chancellor – development services, to work with the CIIN team and come up with a working document on the proposed partnership.
