National Organising Secretary of All Progressives Congress, Sen. Osita Izunaso, has said that the party has no preferred candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra.
He stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while inaugurating the party’s Anambra Governorship Election Primary and Appeal Committee, which has Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno and Dr. Hassan Lawal as co-chairmen.
The party has scheduled Aug. 26 for the primary election to pick its candidate for the governorship contest coming up on Nov. 18.
“There is nothing like a preferred candidate. It does not exist in APC, so, please disregard such; APC does not have any proffered candidate.
“All aspirants are preferred candidates, and anyone that wins the primary is alright for the party,’’ Izunazo said.
He said that the party had not zoned the governorship ticket to any senatorial zone in the state and urged the committee to disregard such insinuation.
He maintained that committee’s assignment was to ensure that whoever emerged from the simple majority ballot at the primary was declared the winner on the spot.
According to Izunaso, 4,500 delegates from the 21 local government areas of the state and 326 electoral wards, as well as statutory delegates from the state and national levels, are expected to vote in the primary.
He said that accreditation of delegates should be done after proper identification of delegates, using national identification card, international passport, voter card or driver’s license.
“You are expected to hold a stakeholders meeting with all aspirants to discuss some issues with them and the primary process.
“This is to let them know how it will be done and no information should be hidden from any aspirant,’’ he warned.
The organizing secretary added that aspirants were to have their agents at the accreditation points as well as at the voting points.
