The Ondo State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, has declared his support for the youth in the country in their quest for ‘ Not too young to run’ advocacy, saying the youth are greatly needed in governance and decision making in the country.
He, however, said if the youth were ready for governance, they should prepare to make sacrifices, face the challenge of leadership and give impetus to the machinery of governance.
Akeredolu stated this at the 2017 International Youth Day celebration held at the Cultural Centre, Akure, the state capital.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Olugbenga Ale, the governor decried the high level of youth unemployment in the country but noted that his administration was making efforts to engage youths in the state in agriculture in order to tackle unemployment and also for the youth to be independent.
He said, “It is rather unfortunate that despite the abundant natural and human resources available in our environment, our youths are still caught in the web of social vices. To our administration, this is a worrisome trend for our country and it is not acceptable to us.”
