The song, Pere is an attempt by Davido to foster his international presence, resting heavily on guest foreign artistes to do the job they’ve got paid for. Issokay!
After the overwhelming success of Fall and IF, Davido teamed up with American pop star, Young Thug and the duo of Rae Sremmurd to deliver an Afro-Trap tune produced by DJ Mustard.
To be honest, DJ Mustard got it right with the beat. The digression of the instrumental seems to be suitable for all the acts in their different genre. Of course, Davido’s voice brought out the “AFRO” part of the song without stress.
It is crystal clear that Davido is under pressure to appeal to foreign audience despite the success of the African sound he is obviously comfortable with. How I wish he had lyrically invested more on this “Pere” song rather than only taking the chorus and one very weak verse.
This song is a reflection of the fact that Davido might eventually fall off in no distant time should he continue dipping his hands into much international campaign.
For the sake of If and Fall, I don’t think this “Pere” will clinch any major success.
Overall, I will rate this song 6 on the scale of 10.
