Niger Sharia court worker held for car theft

Enyioha Opara, Minna

The Niger State Police Command said it has arrested a 35-year-old man, Mohamadu Musa, of Okada Road, Minna in the Bosso Local Government Area, for car theft.

It was learnt that Musa, a worker with Dandaudu Sharia Court, Sarki Pawa  in the Munya Local Government Area of the state, allegedly snatched a silver-colour Mercedes Benz E350 4matic,  belonging to one Mr. Tunde Olufesi of the same area.

Northern City News gathered that the suspect drove the car to Kano where he allegedly planned to sell it for N2m, but was asked to bring the vehicle documents by a prospective buyer.

The suspect was reportedly arrested on his way to Minna to procure the car particulars.

Findings indicated that the car was being driven by the owner’s wife in company with her two children when Musa ambushed them along Okada Road and ordered them out of the car.

He allegedly threatened them with by creating the impression that the phone in his pocket was a gun.

He was said to have zoomed off in the car with Olufesi’s handbag containing her handset and other valuables.

Musa told our correspondent that he snatched the car because his salary was not enough to meet his needs.

“I am ashamed of myself; the money I was looking for, I didn’t get it and my office will now sack me for bringing shame to them,” he said.

The police spokesman in the state, Bala Elkana, said the suspect would soon be arraigned in court.
