Globacom has decried the “widespread incidence of hasty character judgement in the society triggered by ethnic bias and perceived sectional character traits” based on its TV drama series, “Professor Johnbull.”
In a statement, the company said it was unfortunate that people were often judged based on the improper behaviour of a few people in the community, adding that this “coloured” judgement had led to cases of disaffection in the society and had turned otherwise peaceful communities to ones plagued by “acrimony and mistrust.”
According to the telecommunications firm, “The problems character judgment and hasty generalisations have created in a multicultural society like Nigeria cannot be downplayed.
“We are hopeful that after this episode, viewers will learn to judge individuals based on their unique character and not on uninformed sentiments based on ethnicity, cultural nuances and geographical locations as every society is peopled by the good, the bad and the ugly and no one is bad because he or she comes from a particular place.”
