The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, has said restructuring the country could not have been the priority of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration given the challenges it inherited upon resuming office.
Lai Mohammed made the disclosure on Thursday, June 8, when he featured on “Focus Nigeria” current affairs programme of African Independent Television (AIT), anchored by Gbenga Aruleba, Premium Times reports.
According to Mohammed, the high level of corruption, economic downturn, insecurity, particularly with the activities of Boko Haram, could not have made the government contemplate restructuring.
The minister said upon resumption of the administration, it focused on the fight against corruption, insecurity and the economy which formed the basis of its campaign.
He said two years after its inauguration, the administration had succeeded on the three campaign promises.
The minister dismissed the perception in certain quarters, that the government’s anti-corruption fight was one sided or targeted at opposition.
He said that anywhere there was anti-corruption fight, corruption would fight back and the tensions being experienced in the country could be linked to it.
Lai Mohammed, disclosed this on Wednesday, June 7, when answering questions from journalist shortly after the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Mohammed said that such statement by the northern groups was capable of destabilising the country.
The minister however, assured Nigerians that security agencies are on top of the matter.
