A young woman who burst into a church half-naked claiming she had been kidnapped and raped made it up, according to police. Breana Harmon Talbott, 18, has reportedly claimed three black males wearing ski masks had kidnapped her near her vehicle outside her apartment.
She told people at a church that she had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted in woods near the church, police said. But she is now said to have confessed to investigators, admitting she staged the hoax.
The injuries to her body, police said, were self-inflicted and there was no evidence of sexual assault. The incident occurred in the small Texas town of Denison earlier this month.
Talbott's fiance had reported her missing on March 8.
A search followed before she was said to have been found disrupting a church service wearing only her shirt and underwear, Fox News reports.
Denison Police Chief Jay Burch said: “
The case quickly gathered regional attention due to the severity of the alleged crime and rumours quickly begin to spin out of control through social media.
"Almost immediately, Talbott’s story and allegations began to unravel. Within only a day or two, detectives had doubts as to most of Talbott’s allegations.”
