Players fell to the ground as they desperately covered their faces after a tear gas filled the pitch. Zambia and South Africa were locking horns in their Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations clash when tear gas, apparently fired by police outside the arena, made its way to the pitch.
Incredible footage and pictures show the stars of the future covering their mouths in a bid to beat the toxic chemical. At one point, fans in the seats started to become affected, although many continued to cheer as the ref delayed play by a whole six minutes.
Hosts Zambia went on to win the match 1-0 in extra time and progress to the final, with Edward Chilufya netting the crucial goal.
Zambia will now meet either Senegal or Guinea in Ndola on Sunday as they look to win the tournament for the very first time.
