Chapecoense have taken their first international flight since the Colombian air disaster that wiped out most of the Brazilian club's squad. The newly formed team smiled and posed for pictures on board just months after the crash, near the Colombian city of Medellin, that claimed 71 lives.
A total of 23 players and technical support staff flew to Sao Paulo, Brazil, before picking up a connecting flight on Sunday morning to Panama. They then completed the final leg of their journey to Maracaibo in north western Venezuela.
As their predecessors did before them the new team took selfies on the plane displaying an upbeat mood and posted photos on social media networks.
The tragedy-hit Brazilian team face Zulia FC in their debut match in the Copa Libertadores 2017 on Tuesday.
It has also emerged that Chapecoense officials included Neto and Alan Ruschel, survivors of November’s plane crash, in the list of 30 players scheduled to play in the Libertadores.
A total of 71 were people killed when the plane carrying the team to play in the Copa Sudamerica final in Colombia crashed into a mountain near the city of Medellin in November.
