See Gbajabiamila In Secret Meeting With Buhari; Reveals Rationale Behind Saraki’s Trial

.femi gbajabiamilaThe leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has described the ongoing trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) as a constitutional and legal matter.
Addressing State House correspondents on Thursday after meeting behind closed doors with President Buhari, he said Saraki’s trial had nothing to do with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Senate president is being tried by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on 13-count charge including alleged false declaration of assets.
Gbajabiamila said he did not know how the issue could be resolved politically since it was a constitutional and legal matter.
“I can’t comment and promote things that are unsubstantiated. You know the problem is a constitutional, legal problem. And I don’t know how you can treat constitutional legal problem politically. If that be the case, perhaps I may not know,” he said.
Responding to a question on whether there was still leadership crisis in the National Assembly, he said there was no longer any crisis in the House of Representatives.
The House leader, however, said he was sure that the Senate president would have his day in court.
“Everything that has a beginning, has an end. I don’t think and I don’t know if there is any leadership crisis in the National Assembly. I’m not sure at what you’re alluding to. I’m not in the Senate.
But the little I understand is that there is an issue involved with the Senate President. That has nothing to do with the APC. That has to do with the issue of law, and I’m sure the Senate president is being surely represented and he’ll have his day in court. If the matter comes up, I don’t think it’s an APC issue; it’s not an APC issue at all. There is no crisis, not in the House.
Gbajabiamila said he and Buhari discussed “the issue of budget and a few other House keeping matters to further cement the relationship between the House and the president”
He said the House was in firm support of the zero-budgeting mulled by the incumbent administration, affirming that it was part of the government’s efforts towards blocking leakages.
He said the House would handle the fallout of the constitution of its committees with justice and equity to avoid problems.
On the position of the House on Buhari’s anti-corruption war, Gbajabiamila said he believed that all members were disposed to it.
